Pastor Roger Thompson was born and raised in southern California in a loving but non-Christian home. As a child he grow up racing motorcycles which became a career professionally that lasted until 1988. In 1989, he married his junior high sweetheart, Denise, after both of them made a life-changing decision to accept Christ on Easter Sunday 1989 at a Sunrise service. Following the end of his racing career, Roger transitioned to a profession in concrete contracting & pumping.
In July 1996, guided by divine inspiration, the Thompson family relocated to North Alabama. Initially unsuccessful in finding a church, he began teaching a Bible study in his home. Driven by a strong sense of calling, he relocated his family to Chattanooga, Tennessee, to embark on a three-year pastoral internship at Grace Calvary Chapel.
In 2005, Roger was ordained as a pastor and was a staff pastor at Grace Calvary Chapel for the next two years. In February of 2007, the Lord was leading the Thompsons to plant Calvary Chapel Crossville an hour north of Chattanooga. But on April 21st, of the same year, Roger was involved in a motorcycle accident that nearly resulted in the loss of his left leg. But lead by the grace of God and a call to fulfill, they planted CC Crossville in September 2007. All the while Roger would spend the next 8 years in and out of a wheelchair, enduring 12 surgeries.
Despite the looming threat of amputation, Roger faithfully served as the pastor of CC Crossville for six years. It was in September 2013 that Pastor Roger handed CC Crossville off to another pastor to continue the work the Lord started.
In January 2016, Pastor Roger received an unexpected call from Poimen Ministries regarding a small Calvary Chapel church in Maricopa, Arizona, in need of a senior pastor. Embracing this opportunity, Roger assumed the role of senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Maricopa in June 2016.
Pastor Roger is happily married to his wife, Denise, and together they have two grown children and five grandchildren.
